According to the most common story, this cocktail was created in 1987 by a bartender living in Florida. At the time, a liquor brand organized a competition among bartenders to increase sales of peach liqueur. The bartender with the most sales would win a prize.

To popularize peach liqueur, a bartender created a cocktail with a catchy name and easy drinking. He combined vodka, peach schnapps and fruit juices to create a tropical and refreshing drink. The name of the cocktail humorously described the two things tourists in Florida look for most: the beach and fun.
