COCKTAIL RECIPE
Rum Runner
Rum Runner is a vibrant and fruity cocktail made with rum, banana liqueur and tropical fruit flavors. Sweet and refreshing, it is one of the most popular Caribbean-style drinks, especially in beach bars and summer evenings.
The Rum Runner cocktail originated in the 1950s in Islamorada, Florida, USA. As the story goes, the cocktail was born out of a mix that a bartender at the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar made to utilize the different liquors and rums he had on hand. The resulting drink was so popular that it quickly became the bar's most popular cocktail.
The name of the cocktail comes from an expression that dates back to the prohibition era in America. The term "rum runner" was the name given to sailors who smuggled alcoholic beverages in the 1920s. These smugglers, who carried rum from the Caribbean to America, were especially active off the coast of Florida. Hence the name of the cocktail refers to this adventurous period.
“Life sometimes creates its most beautiful stories from unexpected mixtures.”
